From childhood, every individual is informed about the importance of oral health. If there is any form of neglect directed towards the teeth and gums, they will become vulnerable to a number of infections and diseases, which can lead to long term consequences on the entire health of the body. However, there are people who opt to ignore their dental health not because of lack of time, but because they don’t want to visit the dentists for regular checkups as they regard them as painful and invasive. The problem is that these procedures are an essential component of conventional dentistry and it is not possible to avoid them. In comparison, biological dentistry is a unique concept that departs from the traditional of conventional dentistry.
Natural and biological dentistry is not a very common concept as yet and the dental industry hasn’t accepted it as yet. Nevertheless, it is rapidly gaining acceptance and popularity because it is a treatment options that addresses dental issues without any serious health consequences and side effects. Therefore, people have given up treatment through conventional approach in favor of the natural one. Furthermore, there has been rising evidence that the procedures and methods implemented in natural or holistic dentistry can provide the same clinical results as that of traditional dentistry due to which it is highly promising.
Dr. Daniel Vingrad, a biological San Diego dentist, says that the whole body approach is implemented by a biocompatible dentist when dental and oral care services are being rendered. The methods that are used in this dentistry have been culled from a variety of alternative and complementary approaches. In fact, this practice rejects some of the procedures and methods of conventional dentistry such as the installation of silver amalgam fillings and root canal therapy. This is because these procedures have been declared as harmful and dangerous for the patients. Biocompatible dentistry dictates that no such procedure that inflicts any damage or harm on the patients should be practiced.
According to biocompatible or mercury free dentists, the materials and ingredients that are commonly used in the conventional approach haven’t been backed by enough evidence. In addition, it is their belief that traditional dentistry uses such chemicals and procedures, which can give rise to a long chain of health complications and doesn’t safeguard the interest of the patients in this way. Dr. Daniel Vinograd further says, “In contrast, the methods and procedures that are practiced by holistic dentists have been put through the test of time and have rendered impressive and desired results. This means that natural or biological dentistry is simply an amalgamation of healthy conventional treatments and natural methods”.
This approach dictates that it’s not possible to isolate oral health from overall health, which is why the whole body has to be considered. Therefore, when providing dental care, other elements of health are also taken into account. There are some natural procedures that have contributed to the success of this approach and they include aromatherapy, reflexology, acupuncture, massage etc. For the purpose of achieving long term results, changes to the lifestyle and diet of the patients may also be made by biological dentists who practice natural dentistry.
