People come to class all of the time with different experiences and backgrounds...of course! That's a good thing! **Please remember, if you have taken Zumba with another instructor, understand that your experience is going to be COMPLETELY different with each person...and that's a good thing! Using our bodies and minds in different ways all of the time is good for us! Dance requires us to use our brains. Have you worked your brain out lately? Don't fall asleep at class! Don't get stuck doing exactly the same routines all of the time. A mix is best. To get a GREAT workout, it's good to know a bunch of routine choreography so you can REALLY get physically in to it and get a fantastic workout, but we should give fitness to our brains too!
Did you know that the body will accommodate? What does that mean? If you move in the same way, using the same type of exercise or exercise equipment, your body will adjust and not derive as much benefit! What does that mean? It means YOU SHOULD CHANGE and MIX it up to benefit both physically AND cognitively! Well...that's the speech-language pathologist coming out in me! Research is proving it. Truly, if we use our brains in different ways cognitively, we can help keep our minds sharper as we age and decrease the the likelihood or severity of dementia! Take from different instructors. Challenge yourself to try new things. Change your exercise routine. Move in different ways...it works! That's why I love dance. We work all different muscle groups in ever-changing ways and we sometimes do it without even thinking about it because it's fun! Have a great day! Your Zumba Mama & Mami, Leslie
